In 1870, in a small town between Sacramento and Los Angeles, the financier William Ralston was instrumental in bringing about it's establishment. The town people gathered and said they wanted to name the town after Ralston, but William Ralston declined. That is "Muy Modesto" (very modest) said townsmen Juan Gonzales.
Thus the town of Modesto, California.
Fact or Fiction? You decide.
