Morning Has Broken

Morning has broken
Like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken,
Like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for the springing
Fresh from the word.

50 Shades of Grey

Our Isolation drive around Ann Arbor revealed a stark reality.  I arrived in Michigan about 26 days ago.  The change of weather and scenery was drastic to say the lease.  I find the beauty of nature here to be stark a contrast to what was left behind.  None the less I saw struck by all the Shades of Grey. Dark  Brooding  Melancholia.

Prime Time

The arrival of boxes at our front porch is HAPPY TIME for us. The excitement, the wonder, the anticipation. What is it? What did we get? Oh the Joy!

Camus “The Plague”

He knew what those jubilant crowds did not know but could have learned from books: that the plague bacillus never dies or disappears for good; that it can lie dormant for years and years in furniture and linen- chests; that it bides its time in bedrooms, cellars, trunks, and bookshelves; and that perhaps the day would come when, for the bane and the enlightening of men, it would rouse up its rats again and send them forth to die in a happy city.

The End

Dove’s New Home is in Ann Arbor

Let’s make it official. A week ago I left the our Home in Hawaii.

Our new Home is in Ann Arbor! 6000 miles makes a big difference, but Home is where the you make it. We have arrived at a very unfortunate time in History. We are in a World Wide Pandemic. That means we are essentially shut off from everybody with very little in terms household items. We are stocked with food and toilet paper for now thankfully. Also able to buy a car (Honda Fit) on the last day before they shut down dealerships and the DMV. Wish we had someplace to go though.

The Choice is Easy

So this is an interesting observation. I spent the day returning the Modem and Cable boxes and stopping by our spot at Queens Beach and then going Surfing late in the afternoon. The beach was practically deserted. The Life Guard Tower was unmanned and parking for free was easy. It took a global pandemic to return the Island to the Kamaaina. I came home from the surf session extremely hungry. Of course I’ve had a few drinks and am feeling lonely. The big take away is that if i had to make a choice of staying here and enjoying this Island Paradise or being with my Sugar and Kali, I would choose to be with them in a second. I leave for Michigan tomorrow and it’s a little sad, but as I once heard: “you made your bed, now lie in it”!

Of course I am totally sloshed as I am sitting here, but I think this is the inner me speaking!

Trauma and Getting out of Dodge

Sending Kali off with Island Pet Movers was traumatic for me and probably more so for her. I miss that cat already.

Tried to walk it off and clean out the house. Getting out of Dodge is the goal. Moved my flight up and making the final push for Michigan.

Self Isolation

Kali and I snuggled and talked to each other. Sadly I think we both miss our Sugar. Routines are out of wack. I walked to Aina Haina and then back along the coast. I might be my imagination but the amount of traffic is considerably less. Only 4 cars at Kawaikui Park. It is cloudy and threatening to rain. I did figure out where Doug Lock’s House is though, it’s on the street that Mary Ohtani is on. Saw his Volkswagen Bus in the garage.

Creative dinner; Frozen Burrito with sautéed onions and peppers.

I was the lucky one

Recently Sugar wrote in her blog and it reminded me that I was the lucky one who happened to find this girl The Summer She Turned Pretty. A...
